Handprint Lillies

I saw this on Family Fun. Tristan didn't really take to it. I did most of the work, but he was very excited when he realized it was a flower.

So what you need...

1 piece of white card stock
1 piece of green card stock
Pencil
Scissors
Hole punch
Green straw
Tape
Yellow pipe cleaner

First either your or your child trace his hand on the white card stock.
For each flower you do, make that many hands
We made two flowers so I traced his hand twice.

Then cute it/them out.


On the green card stock, fold it in half


Draw 2 leaves on one of the folded sides, leaving about a half an inch stem on the fold crease


Then cut the leaves out



Once you've cut the leaves out, with your hole punch, punch a hole in the center of the crease


Go back to your hand cut out and take a pencil and wrap the fingers around it to form a curl.
Do this for each finger.




Then take the pencil and wrap the wrist end around the back of the hand.
This just makes it easier to wrap the hand around the straw.
When you've wrapped the wrist end around the straw tape it to secure it on.




Then, take your leaves, and put the straw through the hole and secure it with tape.




Use the pencil to curl your leaves as well.

Then take your pipe cleaner and cut it in half.
Bend that half in half and place it in the top of the straw.




Then you're done.

Easter Window Clings

Today's artwork project idea I got from Skip To My Lou. You'll need clear contact paper, scissors, tape and we used markers instead of paint.
Cut out squares of contact paper. Tape it down with clear side up. Paint or draw on it.

When done, cut another piece of square contact paper so it's about the same size as the previous one, and peal the back off and place it over the top of the drawn piece. Try to get the bubbles out.

Then draw some egg shapes or whatever you want on the back of the paper side

Cut them out and peel the back off and cling it to your window

Letter Of The Week - R Is For Rainbow

I know that St. Patrick's Day is done, but we're still working on the letter R, and rainbows. So today Tristan is working on writing the letter "R". He didn't do to bad, but to show him how good he did, I put a blue star on the really god R's. Below is his worksheet...which you can find here. First he colored the rainbow...

Then, with some help, he wrote his R's


After he wrote his R's, he made a hand print rainbow.
We used red, orange, yellow, green, blue & purple construction paper,
marker and scissors.


Then, I drew his hand print on each color of construction paper.


After we drew the hand prints, I cut the hand prints out



Then Tristan glued them together




Finally, he had a hand print rainbow

Letter Of The Week - S For Shamrock

I've decided to work with Tristan on some of his education. Tristan is 4 and a little slow on his speech, but he does know his ABC's and he can count to 30 with no help. But he needs to learn how to write them. So because St. Patrick's Day is just a week away, I decided to start with the letter S.

Here is what we used:
Green Finger Paint
Paper Plate
Yellow Construction Paper
Shamrock Print Out
Glue
Scissors

I printed out a shamrock which you can get from here.

I then had Tristan paint it green with finger paint.
I place some paint on a paper plate to make it easier for Tristan to use.









While we were waiting for the shamrock to dry, we grabbed the yellow piece of construction paper, and with Tristan's finger, wrote the letter S on the it.



After the shamrock was dry, we turned it over and put glue on the back



Tristan then flipped it over and placed it on the construction paper next to the letter S. Then tapping it in place.



Then it was finished

St. Patrick's Day Rainbow Decoration

Today my son's and I made a rainbow out of streamers and surrounded it with shamrocks.

A cute rainbow with some luck.

First we got streamers with every color from the rainbow



Then we painted shamrock's on paper plates.





Then we cut the center of the plates where the shamrock is



Hang the streamers up and there we go...

Fun Kid Activity: Making Play-Dough

Today my boy's and I made some play-dough. Well, Brayden kind of got board with it, but Tristan was all for it. All you need is a few ingredients that you may have around the house and that's it! Don't forget the food coloring. I only had 1 color so blue was all we made today.

Basic ingredient ratios:
2 cups flour
2 cups warm water
1 cup salt
2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
1 Tablespoon cream of tartar (optional for improved elasticity)

food coloring (liquid, powder, or unflavored drink mix)
scented oils

Mix all of the ingredients together, and stir over low heat. The dough will begin to thicken until it resembles mashed potatoes.

When the dough pulls away from the sides and clumps in the center,remove the pan from heat and allow the dough to cool enough to handle.

IMPORTANT NOTE: if your play-dough is still sticky, you simply need to cook it longer! Keep stirring and cooking until the dough is dry and feels like playdough.

If you have a problem washing off that food coloring, here is a tip:
Use powder detergent, and put a small amount on to damp hands.
Rub hands together, dry, then under water.
You don't have to scrub as much.
